What is being done about the ant situation in C block? It has been brought to your attention multiple times and no permanent solution has been made.
The ant situation in C - block is something that we are monitoring and actively treating, but it is impossible to cure if the block does not bring their part. Maintenance went to inspect the problematic areas and saw a dirty living environment. Plates of half eaten food, leaking cool drink bottles on the floor etc. This attracts ants. The block was fumigated twice already, but if the ants ate getting fed every time, they will just return. So there is no permanent solution with ants, as they go where they want to. But there is a permanent solution for the infestation, and this is to start being more hygienic in tearms of living area, so that the fumigation is successful. meerhoffvoices replied 1180 days ago

Why is there no warning when maintenance is coming to your room? Privacy, is important and stealing does happen.
Meerhoff maintenance has been working with certain contractors for a large number of years and no incident of theft have been seen, the supervisor is also overseeing operations.
The reason for giving no warning is that some jobs take longer than others, so the contractors do not know when they will have time for that spesific complaint.
Large jobs that take a lot of time do come with a warning.
With regards to privacy: If you do not want maintenance to work in your room at that time, you can refuse, but then your complaint will go to the bottom of the pile again, as it costs money and time to call out the contractors to see to your complaint. meerhoffvoices replied 1180 days ago

When is the WiFi being sorted out? It’s a bit ridiculous to be staying in a residence that costs close to R60 000, but the bare minimum like WiFi isn’t even available.

When will wifi be installed? You keep asking us not to ask but no communication is being given from your side and it’s getting frustrating
The Wi-fi installation is not done by Meerhoff maintenance, but by IT. We have not received a definitive time frame from them for the installation. We update the house every time that we get an update that is indicating any advancement in the time frame. We are awaiting a response from IT ourselves. Updates in spesifics do not help the house with regards to the remaining duration of installation, and thus this does not help us, and creates spam in the groups. Frustration is a common feeling from the house as well as IT, and this is why we ask of the house not to email them directly, because this will not increase the speed of installation. meerhoffvoices replied 1180 days ago

Why is there not a standard quality of living in Meerhoff? Some buildings have very nice common spaces while others literally are bare. A good environment contributes to a good mental health AND more pod interaction
Meerhoff tries to offer each floor that same amenities. Please note that decor and making the space you live in feel like a good mental health space is dependent on the floor members. Any additional amenities found on other floors are either bought by the members or were left on the floors by previous members.

Does our Residence Head, Louis permanently reside on campus? Communication from him is often delayed, as well as urgent res- related matters.
Constitutionally, what is the role of a Residence Head? Louis is employed by SU, and his secondary position is to be the residence head for Meerhoff. He thus stays on campus permanently, except for when he works in Stellenbosch during the day. He serves as the link between the HK, the university, as well as the residents.
